01

Light moves differently

Blind slats redirect daylight without fully opening the window. Shades generally shift between raised, filtered, and closed states depending on fabric. Dual shades and top-down cellular options add intermediate control.

02

The room sets the aesthetic

Wood and faux wood blinds create horizontal structure and relate to millwork. Roller shades can recede; Romans and wovens bring textile depth. Consider the treatment’s stack, head detail, and street-facing appearance.

03

Privacy and darkness

Closed blind slats provide privacy but retain small gaps. Opaque shades close the view more fully, while solar and sheer shades are not dependable after dark. True room-darkening requires attention to perimeter light.

04

Care and scale

Smooth slats are straightforward to dust or wipe, though each slat is exposed. Roller fabrics offer broad easy-care surfaces. Very wide blinds can become heavy; roller systems often handle broad glass more naturally.
