01
Openness factor
Openness is the percentage of open weave. Lower openness blocks more glare and view; higher openness keeps more view.
02
Color
Dark fabrics absorb light and improve outward view; light fabrics reflect more and can feel brighter inside.
03
Orientation
East and west elevations get low-angle sun that is hardest to control; north elevations may need little.
04
Limits
Solar fabrics are not night privacy. Energy outcomes depend on glass, orientation, and use; we do not promise savings.
Decision table
Compare the practical tradeoffs.
| Exposure | Openness | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| West | Lower | Low-angle afternoon sun |
| South | Lower to moderate | High summer sun |
| East | Lower to moderate | Morning glare |
| North | Higher | Diffuse light |
Pick openness by orientation and task, color for view and screens, and plan night privacy separately.
