01

Price the treatment and the motor together

A motorized roller shade still needs fabric, a tube sized for the span, brackets, hem detail, and often fascia or a cassette. Roman, woven, and blackout systems have different lifting demands. Size and fabric weight influence motor capacity, so the same motor is not appropriate for every opening.

02

Power is a design decision

Rechargeable power can suit finished homes and avoids opening walls, but charging access and intervals belong in the plan. Hardwired low-voltage power is cleanest when coordinated before drywall. Line-voltage and control wiring require appropriate trade coordination. The least expensive power choice today is not always the easiest to live with later.

  • Rechargeable: lower disruption, periodic charging
  • Hardwired: discreet daily use, best planned early
  • Accessible power: important at high or concealed shades

03

Controls define the experience

A handheld remote for one room is different from grouped wall controls, schedules, app access, voice integration, or connection to a broader home platform. Integration may require compatible interfaces and programming. Confirm capabilities for the specific system rather than assuming every motor communicates with every platform.

04

Use quantity strategically

Motorize where height, width, frequency, or coordinated scenes create real value. Manual treatments can remain sensible in occasional rooms. Repeating one well-planned fabric, fascia, and control approach across an elevation often improves visual consistency and commissioning efficiency.
